Gordon Spaugh lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where history can trace his
family residence back to the mid-1700s. He was raised in a Christian home and joined
the church as a teen. His walk with the Lord had been closest at the birth of his
children, job changes and in CBS. He served three terms as an elder and two terms
as a deacon in his church. He has taught Sunday School and sings in the choir.
After graduating from Davidson College in 1960, he served two years with the United
States Army in Germany. His career began with 10 years in bank marketing and a distinguished
25 years in property and casualty insurance. For part of his insurance career, he
was co-owner of an independent insurance agency.
Upon his retirement, his daughter challenged him to find and be involved with a
ministry. While he was packing personal items in his office, he saw an announcement
that caught his attention in a copy of the CBS International “Global Report.”
The ministry was seeking a director for the Caleb ministry. He inquired about the
position in early 2000 and agreed to volunteer. Since that time, he has been recruiting
and training volunteers to share and build CBSI in other countries.
He is thankful for the challenge of his daughter, who has taken her own advice and
started a ministry for Latino high school students for Young Life in Charlotte,
North Carolina.
